Sam:

Welcome to Mental Break it Down, a podcast for therapists and the therapy curious, where we dig into all things mental health and mental health adjacent. We're so happy you're here, let's jump in. Hi Sam, hi Sonia, how are you? Oh, I'm living the dream. Ooh, I'm doing really well.

Sonia:

We're hanging out. We are hanging out in our office because why? We are therapists in private practice. So yeah, this podcast is run by two therapists in private practice and we are friends, we are grad school peers and we're business partners, and this podcast is a what did we call it? A audio visual scrapbook of our work.

Sam:

Yeah, we wanted something that was A an excuse to talk to other clinicians and other people in the mental health and wellness space and adjacent to that. So build community and build relationships while having fun, because this is fun for us. We like fun. Yeah, Doing a podcast is like I mean, we're chatty anyway.

Sonia:

We're therapists.

Sam:

That just makes sense.

Sonia:

We love to talk.

Sam:

Well, we love to listen, yes, and so if I know that there's a million other podcasts out there on mental health. But if I've learned anything over the years is that everybody's perspective adds a little bit more to the information out there. And so if we're able to talk to all of our colleagues and put their information out there and ours, it's a fun way of, like you said, documenting just our process and where we're at in life. We record the podcast, create community and then hopefully provide some information for other people, and I think we also.

Sonia:

What was important for us is we also learn in this journey right. So it's continuing education, but visually, audio, audibly. You're really great. I didn't have coffee today. I'm really trying my best but, yeah, continue learning from our peers, from each other and the work that you do, the work that I do. I'm constantly learning from you and I think it's so valuable because it adds to the work that I do.

Sam:

So just having fun learning complaining. Oh yes, you will complain.

Sonia:

And I'm sure we'll talk about the things that are happening in real life. Real world. Maybe not in real time because our podcasts aren't airing live, but I'm sure we'll tackle those things and we'll talk about therapy and therapy-adjacent topics. Mm-hmm, yeah, I'm excited, me too.

Sam:

What are you excited about doing?

Sonia:

Oh, I'm excited about creating our community and meeting people in our area that are doing the work. Yeah, I'm very excited and to find out all the different niches that are out there. It's been such a cool learning experience so far. Right, people are doing things that I never thought that we could actually claim as therapists.

Sam:

Oh, like outside of just talk therapy or like the certain traditional styles.

Sonia:

Yeah, yeah. What I mean is specifically the niches. I just did not know that you can claim this certain thing in.

Sam:

you know, in fill in the blank, as a niche, which is so cool and, for those of you who don't know, a niche in this industry is just what we specialize in.

Sonia:

Yeah.

Sam:

So, sonia, what is your niche? In a nutshell, that was hard to say, that was hard to say.

Sonia:

Yeah, it was tongue twister. My niche, in a nutshell, is working on relationship, conflict and challenges at the individual level.

Sam:

I'll just leave it at that for now Great, are you going to ask me what mine is?

Sonia:

Oh, Samantha, what is your niche?

Sam:

I was about to take a sip of coffee, you only think of yourself. My niche is grief, and so that can look like the loss of somebody important to you, the loss of something important to you, and that includes pet loss, relationship loss, divorce, life transitions, loss of community all of the rough stuff that we have to deal with in being human. So join us, won't you?

Sonia:

Yay.

Sam:

Yeah, come along on this wild ride, and if there's anything that you want to hear us talk about or a niche you want us to explore, go ahead and just email us. Get in contact. We have everything in our credits, so we don't have to say it now Because it's a long list. We hope to hear from you. Yay, welcome to Mental. Break it Down, we're excited.

Sonia:

Yay, okay, bye.
